Regena Reigns

Regena Reigns is humbled to serve as Mrs. Maryland United States 2008. She is a compassionate, multi-talented, professional who serves her community and family selflessly. Despite a life altering spinal fusion at age 13, Regena earned a B.A. and M.A. in journalism leading to a fruitful broadcast career at NBC-TV, C-SPAN and Dateline.

After marrying her soulmate named Sir, Regena continued her career and began to focus on her passion and current platform:Youth Empowerment Programs that H.E.A.L. (Healthy Educated Artistic Leaders). In less than a year Regena impacted over 400 students with unique curricula that utilize the tools of poetry and publishing to increase literacy, efficacy and self-esteem. Regena students affectionately call her "Mrs. Sir."

Equipped with a strong spiritual foundation, a loving family and supporting community, Regena won both city and state titles in all scored! Soon after, Regena met with Governor Martin O'Malley and was recruited to attend a "Summit on School Safety Solutions" alongside Congressman Elijah Cummings-MD, State Superintendent Nancy Grasmick and other politicians. This invitation has brought Regena one step closer to her goal of reforming public schools nationwide.

Mrs. Maryland is quite busy yet understands balance is key to a fulfilling life so she finds time to nurture her creativity. She is an award winning poet and is the author of "Tears of God" and cd titled "Deep." Regena's stage name is Sonray and with the rhythm of a fluid wave breaking against a rugged shore, this poet delivers a hybrid of spirited performances at conferences and schools nationwide. Sonray’s words have been heard along the radio airwaves from the icy depths of Alaska to the exotic getaways in Hawaii.

Casting directors started taking notice of her performances and selected Regena for several acting roles. Regena is a Screen Actors Guild actress and has appeared on both the small and large screens in T.V. shows such as "The West Wing", "Commander-In-Chief", "The Wire" and in films, "Chris Rock's-Head of State", "Step Up 1 & 2" and "Talk to Me." In between pageantry preparations, Regena filmed the upcoming movies "State of Play" with Russell Crowe and "My One and Only" with Renee Zellweger.

Without equivocation, Regena considers herself blessed and thanks God everyday for using her as a conduit to inspire others. Through the divine spirit Regena wears an invisible crown everyday, however Mrs. Maryland United States 2008 received her physical crown the same year her sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated celebrated 100 years of supreme service to all mankind. Whether you know her as Regena, Sonray or Mrs. Sir, she epitomizes the quote from her sorority sister "Maya Angelou," I have found among it's other benefits, giving liberates the soul of the giver."
